Letter from the Editors
Welcome to the 14th edition of Spirit Lake Review anyone listening outside the classroom door on any given Wednesday evening would not easily believe the serious work that was occurring within. Loud laughter excited discussions and passionate pleas were standard for every class/editing session. Literary magazines class is not for the faint of heart or those of pale opinion every word and every piece of art was discussed debated and voted on multiple times in the end we believe we have produced a magazine of exceptional quality filled with literature and art that will be well regarded in both our community and throughout the UW-system.

Of course, we, the student editors, could not achieve this without our guru and General Ringmaster Kelly Dwyer. Every edition to date of Spirit Lake Review owes its excellence and adherence to high standards to her guidance and focus.

In the end, it would all be a futile gesture without our readers. We, the editors offer our most sincere thanks to all the readers and fans of the Spirit Lake Review.
Letter from the Instructor
After late nights, a rushed deadline, trips for Chinese food and pizza, and numerous students working very, very hard, we finally have our 2017 edition in your hands, and we couldn't be prouder. We thank the writers and artists who submitted their beautiful work to us, and I thank the students who created this edition, and who make my job so rewarding and so fun. Special shout-outs to Dan and friends, who did more than their fair share, and to John: I'm so happy you'll be gracing us with more of your presence and writing. Finally, a good-bye. This past year Spirit Lake review, UW-BSC, the town of Baraboo, and the entire literary community lost a dear friend in Annie Randall. We are grateful to Annie for all of her support and will miss her very much…
