Ways to Kill a Demon

Taylor Arcand

I could skewer him with a marked demon blade, or
Touch her head with the hand of an angel
And watch the brightness return to Hell.
I feared the darkness, yet
I was fascinated by werewolves and vampires
And anything supernatural because
I dreamed that I could live their lives
Of passionate sin and compelling unforgiveness
Instead of simply asking for it.
I evolved into the essence of my nightmares; now,
To kill a demon is to kill myself.
So, before you send my soul away,
You must place a bullet in the chamber,
Spin the barrel and watch the shot–
Which soars like the wicked feathers of an angel−
Cautiously pierce my raw, abiding flesh.
I will travel to the south side of Hell.
The sky will be calmingly dark,
And I will see the souls I was once captivated by.
